Hardyston school hosts penny wars

The Hardyston Middle School Student Council, with advisor Kasey Kervatt, organized a “penny war” among the grade levels to raise funds for childhood cancer awareness.
The students kicked off the week of festivities by hosting a school-wide pep rally to introduce the fall sports and explain the Penny War/Spirit Week.
Special guest speaker at the pep rally was Senator Steve Oroho (R-24) who sponsored a bipartisan resolution to promote education and awareness about childhood cancer. This resolution was inspired by one of Hardyston’s own, Nicholas DiSilva, who was diagnosed with a form of cancer but is now in remission.
Various school-wide activities will take place the week of the 19th with students competing to raise funds to battle cancer. Each grade level collecting the most change will receive a gift from the Student Council.
All change collected will be donated to The American Childhood Cancer Organization.
