A resolution sponsored by Assemblyman Parker Space and Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus designating the third week in October each year as “New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week” today cleared the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee.
“Utility workers help provide essential services such as electricity, gas and water to residents,” said Space (R-Sussex, Warren and Morris). “For someone looking for a rewarding career, the utility industry offers a wide range of jobs from customer service reps, who work in an office, to line workers responsible for making repairs. This designation will hopefully help make students and job seekers aware of the various training programs and other initiatives New Jersey’s public utilities offer for employment.”
“This designation will hopefully make people stop and think about the crucial role utility workers play in the state’s $37 billion utility infrastructure which is vital to our economy,” said Phoebus. At the same time, it’s important to make the public aware that New Jersey’s public utilities offer numerous opportunities for people of all career stages and education levels to obtain employment. Educating them about the benefits of a career in the industry is a win-win for students, workers and utility companies.”
