Hamburg man charged in car crash

Thomas Scott, 28, of Hamburg was charged with Assault by Auto following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in Franklin on June 15.
After responding to Franklin Police Headquarters he was charged, processed, and released pending his first Court Appearance in Sussex County Superior Court. He was issued several motor vehicle summons including reckless driving, improper passing, and several equipment violations.
Preliminary investigation alleged that one of the operators Scott was traveling north on State Highway 23 and left his respective lane of travel, entering the opposite lane of travel, and struck another vehicle being driven by a juvenile.
Both drivers sustained very serious injuries. Scott was transported to Morristown Medical Center via helicopter. The juvenile was also transported to Morristown Medical Center by ambulance.
State Highway 23 was closed for several hours during the initial investigation. The New Jersey Traffic diversion unit assisted with the road closure. The Sussex County Crash team, Sussex County Sheriff’s Office canine unit, and the Sussex County Prosecutors Office assisted in the investigation.
Several local police departments assisted during the initial response. Wallkill Valley First Aid Squad and Franklin Fire Department also assisted in the extrication of the drivers.
