Golf is one of the few sports that parents can enjoy with their children.
This was again made evident at the 2016 Mid-Summer Parent/Junior Golf Classic played on Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Crystal Springs Golf Resorts Minerals Golf Club. Minerals Golf Club, along with its sister golf club Cascades Golf Course, has gained a reputation for being “Kids Friendly” with advanced tees, larger golf holes and golf carts that can accommodate the needs of younger golfers.
The Mid-Summer Parent/Junior Golf Classic attracted 40 mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, youngsters and oldsters to compete in three divisions: Kindergarten to 4th Grade, 5th Grade to 8th Grade and High School for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place honors and prizes.
When the scorecards were tallied High School Division golfers Shawn Bladine and Gannon Yarmus both carded a 34. A match of cards gave the win to Blandine with Yarmus taking home the 2nd place prize.
In the 5th Grade to 8th Grade Division, Stephen Viray carded a 34 to best 2nd-place finisher Jassiel Sanchez by two strokes and 3rd place finisher Jack Aiello by three strokes. Three golfers ended up with a 31 in the Kindergarten to 4th Grade Division with the winner determined by a match of cards. Top honors went to Toma Krawel with Nick Theodorau taking 2nd place and Brad Wallace Jr. taking 3rd.
In the skill competitions, Julius Viray dominated the closest to the pin competition in the Junior Division with a 10’ 5” shot on hole #2 and a 17’7” on hole #4 winning two Minerals twosome passes to the Minerals Golf Club. Not to be outdone, Julius’ father Alvin Viray landed his tee shot on the par 3 hole #9 with a shot that was 9’ 5” from the pin to take home prize of a twosome at Cascades Golf Club.
