Project Help was delighted to receive sixteen, stuffed backpacks for the children of veterans to return to school with in September. This initiative is part of the larger picture that these ladies are spearheading to benefit local veterans and their families through Project Help, a local organization consisting of all volunteers.
Jeanette Mostowicz, contacted Project Help some months ago to inquire about getting involved with the collection of clothing and small household items for veterans in need. Jeanette and the women of the 1st Presbyterian Church took this charitable endeavor to heart and have been collecting articles of clothing for veterans, (men and women) and their families.
Each month they collected a particular type of donation. Concluding in August, were the back to school items for children of veterans so they can go back with new backpacks and lots of supplies. The drive for clothing will continue into the fall.
Project Help delivered the backpacks to Catholic Charities SOSvets Closets located at 48 Wyker Rd. in Franklin, NJ 07416. For hours of operation to go in and pick up a backpack for back to school, please call (973) 209-0123 and inquire about the vets closet hours. Veterans must show ID to shop in the vet closet of the thrift store. While at the facility, vets are invited to shop for clothing, shoes and other articles for zero cost.
Project Help has delivered hundreds of articles of clothing to the closet in the last few weeks. All of the clothing is almost new or new and are excellent quality. Clothing for men, women and children…even babies and young children can be found, something for every member of the family, shoes, and sneakers, outwear and accessories are all available”, said Sandy Mitchell, Director and founder of Project Help. The vets’ section of the thrift store is only available to the vets, but they can shop the entire store at no cost. It’s a great deal for our greatest Americans. “It’s the least we can do for our nation’s heroes,” said Mitchell.
On September 25, the Stanhope Church will host a concert and clothing drive. The event will feature two bands, Vinnie G. and Bilbo, a rock group that can rock your socks off and The Mission Street Music Club, a really fun and talented group that does really fantastic folky bluesy music with an original twist.
The event will begin at noon at the church, located at 100 Main St., in Stanhope, NJ. The admission with a donation of clothing valued at $25 or more, is $10. This amount includes the music and food from a number of great, local restaurants. Without a donation, the cost is $20. Kids under six are free.
