— Cornerstone Playhouse will present the final musical of their summer productions, Grease, this weekend.
The show features artists from Newton, Mount Olive, Mahwah and Sussex. Janine Byrnes, who returns to Cornerstone in the director seat after having been at the helm for Guys and Dolls in June, and last month assisted with Annie Jr., heads up the show. Musical director for the show is Thomas Silkowski, a senior at Mason Gross. Jana Byrnes, who directed Annie Jr., took on the role of choreographer for this show.
The famous show, written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey in 1971, has been a staged production, a movie, and even had a live television production last year. Its popularity is largely due to the iconic characters- everyone has someone in Grease they could have related to in high school. The high school stereotypes of jock, geek, greaser, nerd and more are represented by beloved characters like Frenchy, Marty, Roger and Sonny.
The cast includes Louis Pieri, Sussex as Danny, Madisyn Mugaveo, Mount Olive as Sandy; Jana Byrnes, Mt Olive as Rizzo; Chris Kolwicz, Mahwah as Kenickie; Kara Byrnes, Mt Olive as Marty; Kyle Penny, Newton as Sonny; Tim Chenard, Newton as Roger; Jess Palmisano, Mt Olive as Jan; Alex McCully, Newton as Doody; Megan Schmiedhauser, Stanhope as Frenchy. The show features Olivia Clavel Davis as Cha-Cha and Steve Munoz as Teen Angel.
Cornerstone’s production will run for two weekends. August 12-21, with Friday and Saturday night shows at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday shows at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online through their website at www.CornerstoneTheatreNJ.com or by calling 973-702-0687.
