John "Jack" Joseph Torppey

John "Jack" Joseph Torppey, 87, went Home to be with our Lord on August 7, 2016. He was a patient at Forest Manor Health Care Center in Hope, NJ, for seven months. Prior to that he lived with his son Wade and family in Wantage, NJ for two years, and his daughter Bliss Trunfio and family in Boonton Twp., N.J. for 11 years.
Born in Bloomfield, NJ, June 24, 1929, he was predeceased by his father John Torppey, his mother Dorothy Mandy (Peele), his step father Edward Stinson, and sisters Dorothy Stevens and Patricia Cockerline.
He graduated in 1947 from Essex County Vocational School in Irvington, N.J., and was a Korean War Army Veteran. He attended the Rockaway Valley United Methodist Church in Boonton Twp. He was employed for 45 years with Iron Workers Local # 11. After retirement he enjoyed helping his children with home repairs, and was able to fix anything.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife Ruth (Green) of 63 years, eight children, Jackellyn McManus and husband Edward of Dingmans Ferry, P.A.; Lance and wife Joni of Hampton, N.J.; Robin Orcutt and husband Walter of Blairstown, N.J.; Bret of Lyndhurst, N.J. and fiancée Lori; Scott and wife Sherry of Wheaton, I.L.; Wade and wife Michelle of Wantage, N.J.; Shawn and wife Leesha of Hardwick, N.J.; Bliss Trunfio and husband Joseph of Naples, F.L.; and 42 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his warm smile and as a quiet, gentle, and patient man who truly lived his faith, loved his family, and adored little children.
Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday August 11th from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Ferguson Funeral home 27 Third Street, Sussex, N.J., and are invited to attend services on Friday August 12, at 11 a.m., interment committal services to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
