For DAR, it’s Christmas in July

Last weekend’s toasty afternoons saw dozens of members of the Chinkchewunska Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution giving guided tours of the Elias Van Bunschooten Museum located on Route 23.
Since 1902, the group has been actively promoting historic preservation, patriotism, and education in Sussex County.
The Christmas in July event saw a half dozen docents giving visitors free guided tours of the historic home. The annual event also included historic re-enactors, vendors, crafters, and more. Outside the museum, tours, presentations and demonstrations were given by members of the Children of the American Revolution as well as members of the 27th Regiment of New Jersey, Company F and “Living History” re-enactor Fred Schofer of Lafayette. A wide collection of attic treasures was also available with the proceeds going toward the organization’s work in the community.
