Oleksy attends New Jersey Boys State

Ryan Oleksy a student at Wallkill Valley Regional High School was chosen to attend The 71st session of American Legion Jersey Boys State.
Jersey Boys' State is a mythical 51st state organized and administered for citizenship training purposes under the auspices of The American Legion, Department of New Jersey. The first sessions was held in 1946 and they have been having an annual ceremony ever since.
Boys' state strives to educate youth in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship in a republic. The ceremony was held on June 24 after a week that shapes the future and 986 High School junior boys chosen from across the state graduated as The Class of 2016.
The boys lived at Rider University and had a week of education and recreational activities. Ryan also played first chair on the bass clarinet in the Boys State Band and was appointed County Parole Officer and the Supervisor of Streets in his city. Speakers such as US Senator Bob Menendez, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, and Commander Roger A. Genaro were just some of the speakers that attended the graduation ceremony.
