Juniors revive children's field games

Decades ago, there were children’s relay races on Jefferson Township Day, but like many activities, they fell by the wayside due to lack of a host group. However, the Jefferson Arts Committee announced The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Jefferson will be hosting relay games for children age 8 and older for this year’s 30th anniversary celebration.
The juniors will let the games begin at 12:30 p.m. on the fields of the Jefferson Township High School football field/track, 1010 Weldon Road, Milton/Oak Ridge, N.J., on Jefferson Township Day, Saturday, July 9. They will be fun, exciting, challenging, and best of all free to all participants.
The club members will start a new relay race every 20-25 minutes so be sure to stop by to play The Book on the Head relay, Quarter Balance between the Knees, the Penny relay, Toe Writing, and Leap Frog. The last two games need to be done in teams of two so grab a partner.
For more information about all the Jefferson Township Day activities starting with a township parade along Weldon Road at 11 am and culminating with a 9:30 huge aerial fireworks display, log on to www.jeffersonarts.org, Jefferson Arts Committee on Facebook, email artscommittee@jeffersonarts.org, or call 973-697-2032 or 973-6877-3828.
Admission throughout the day is free as is parking. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., there will be an admission fee of $3 for adults and $1 for children at all gates.
