Jeff Walsh wins rib eating contest

Jeff Walsh of the Skyline Lake Fire Department in Ringwood defended his championship by devouring a full rack of ribs in 2 minutes 11 seconds to win the 6th annual “Rock, Ribs & Ridges Rib Eating Challenge” on Saturday, June 4, at Franklin Sussex Auto Mall in Sussex.
Walsh defeated 6 other first responders including other volunteer fire fighters, rescue squad, New Jersey State police and members of the U.S. Army to win $500 for his unit at the annual fundraiser, which serves as an appetizer for the upcoming Rock, Ribs & Ridges music and food festival June 25-26 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.
Walsh also receives free festival admission tickets to the annual summer bash which features music by headliners Kansas, Jefferson Starship, Blues Traveler and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Artimus Pyle and mouthwatering barbecue served up by award winning competitive rib chefs.
As part of its commitment to serving the community, Franklin Sussex Auto Mall also donated $100 to each of the other contestants' units and has donated more than $8,600 in cash and prizes since the contest began in 2011.
