Federation sponsors fishing derby at fairgrounds

Despite a cloudy sky and passing showers, hundreds of children and their parents and grandparents tried a morning of fishing at the pond of the Sussex County Fairgrounds.
While workers were preparing for a fundraising rodeo for the Sussex Borough Fire Department and a private wedding on the other side of the grounds, the pond was the place to be for outdoor family recreation.
Held on Saturday, the event was sponsored by the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, which had volunteer members on hand to help as needed.
The event was open to children 15 years of age and younger and participants were asked to bring a can of food for the “NORWESCAP” food program. At the close of the derby, prizes were awarded.
