Quilter coming to Jefferson Township

| 20 May 2016 | 03:34

Quilter Colleen Hintz presents "The Secret Quilt Code of the Underground Railroad" at the Jefferson Township Public Library on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m.
This free program has appeal for history buffs, quilters and creative artists of all kinds.
The fascinating topic focuses on the sewing of quilt blocks to create visual messages for slaves looking to gain their freedom via the Underground Railroad. Though forbidden by the slave owners, the quilt blocks allowed for communication among the slaves.
Colleen Hintz will tell us about the message contained in each block, using her own beautifully hand-made quilt blocks.
The Jefferson Township Public Library is located at 1031 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. To register for this program, or for more information, call the library at 973-208-6244, visit www.jeffersonlibrary.net, or email chris.obrien@jeffersonlibrary.net.
