The Friends of the Sussex-Wantage Library will host a special performance by High Point High School’s Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band on Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m. in the library’s amphitheater. Led by band director James Aslanian, the program will feature selections by Cole Porter, Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Charles Mingus, and more.
The High Point Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band is comprised of approximately 30 students from the Concert Band who have auditioned to be in the group. Ranging from freshmen to seniors, they are focused on learning and mastering the stylistic and technical challenges of jazz music. The Jazz Ensemble recently traveled to Boston for the WorldStrides Heritage Festival. They received silver ratings at both the WorldStrides Heritage Festival and at the West Milford Jazz Festival this past year.
