Where was the news coverage

On April 21, in Franklin, about 200 residents and concerned citizens heard from a panel of experts opposing the Forest Stewardship Plan for Sparta Mountain. Here’s a summary:
Seventy percent of NJ residents get their drinking water from the Highlands area. Water safety was a central topic. NJ Sierra Club Director, Jeff Tittel and Highlands Coalition Executive Director, Julia Somers discussed the importance of this forest and how clear cutting in such an ecologically sensitive area is not sustainable forestry or conservation. Dr. Ryan Rebozo of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance spoke about the importance of protecting the many indigenous rare and endangered plant species.
In a presentation by local resident Susan Dorward, the audience gasped at aerial and ground photos which depicted the already deforested acreage. Lastly, the public was energized by conservationist, Dennis Miranda, who reminded the public that this is our land, preserved through our Green Acres funding. In conclusion, it was stated that this proposed plan is just the beginning of a state-wide initiative. Without environmental assessments and proper checks and balances, these “stewardship” plans would cause irreparable damage to our forests, interior forest species and our water supply.
