Daughters of the Union chapter installs officers

The Private Joseph Bessette Chapter was chartered as an official chapter of the National Society Daughters of the Union 1861-1865 on Saturday April 30, 2016.
Organizing Secretary General Phyllis Lawson of the National Society conducted the chartering ceremony to the nine organizing members. Organizing Chapter Regent Jennifer Norato read proclamations from Governor Chris Christie, Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Scott Garrett each congratulating the chapter on their chartering and recognizing the group for their commitment to honoring the memory of the brave men and woman that fought to preserve our Union during the Civil War.
The National Society Daughters of the Union 1861-1865 is a lineage organization founded in New York on Oct. 9, 1912, by Mrs. Frank Crowell. The society's purpose is to honor the men and women who provided service in the fifth to preserve the Union and to encourage love of America.
Membership in NSDU is open to any woman eighteen years of age or older provided she is direct lineal or collateral descendant of a man or woman wh rendered military or civil service to the Union during the years 1861-1865. Junior membership is open to any female under eighteen years of age who meet the eligibility requirements.
