New Sussex Symphony to perform on May 7

The New Sussex Symphony will perform its third concert for the 2015-2016 season on Saturday, May 7, 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at 111 Ryerson Avenue in Newton.
This concert features Carla Auld performing Carl Reinecke’s Concerto for Flute in D.
Auld, flutist, is a soloist and chamber musician who promotes the performance and recording of new classical and cross-over music by various composers throughout the world. Her performances have been described as “entirely captivating and impressive”, She performs regularly as a soloist in conjunction with the West Side Oratorio Orchestra and several ensembles throughout the New York and Metro area.
She is a First Prize winner of the Alexander and Buono International Flute competition garnering her a performance at Carnegie Hall in Autumn of 2010. Auld is a founding member of the ensemble UpTown Flutes, winners of the Artist International Chamber Music Award, and has released three CD’s entitled A Flute Renaissance, An UpTown Christmas and 21st Century Gems. Her solo CD, Beauty in America features the works of living American composers written primarily for flute and orchestra. The CD is available under the MSR Classics record label and has been described as “beguiling…
perfect technical command.”
Auld holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Temple University and is a Bernhard Hammig flute Ambassador. She maintains a private studio in her home of Wyckoff, NJ.
In addition to the flute concerto, the orchestra will also perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 (“Pastorale”) and Leroy Anderson’s Irish Suite. These three pieces cover over three generations of music.
Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students. Children five years old and under are admitted free of charge. Although tickets may be purchased at the door, tickets are also available at the Bill Wright School of Music on Woodport Road in Sparta and the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council 133 Spring Street in Newton.
