The Vernon Township School District plans its second annual “Artstanding 2016,” May 6, designed to highlight the student work within the Visual, Performing, and Practical Arts from grades K-12.
This festival featuring music, visual art, theatrical productions, dancing, robotics, technology, culinary creations, virtual reality, and hands-on activities is fun for the whole family.
Last year’s event drew more than 1,000 students, parents, educators, and community members to celebrate the Vernon students and highlight our great arts programs. Held on the back lawn of the Lounsberry Hollow Middle School, admission to the show is free, however there will be a silent auction and several raffles with proceeds going to the Vernon Educational Foundation.
This year Vernon was recognized once again by the NAMM Foundation as a “Best Community in Music Education” — placing our school district among the top 2 percent in the country for music education. Engineering students have continued to impress through their work with coding, robotics, and design, drawing attention from many colleges, including the Savannah College of Art and Design, Bucknell, and Temple to offer articulation agreements for the VTHS students. The DECA program is one of New Jersey’s perennial powerhouse Marketing programs and we are sending many students to this year’s ICDC International DECA competition in Nashville, Tenn.
This year, Art and Drama students have won dozens of awards and distinctions at the state and county level. And with the advent of our new CTE programs, many of our students will have a more direct path toward a career with exciting modifications in the Business, Culinary, and Graphic Design curriculum.
