Piano students earn scholarships

The North Jersey Piano Teachers Association will award sholarships to Mariapia Riso, a senior at Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, NJ, and to Isabelle Marseille, a senior at Warwick Valley High School in Warwick, N.Y.
Both recipients are students of Margaret Korczynski of the Sussex County Music Workshop, and will be performing along with other students of the member teachers at the annual Scholarship Recital on April 16 at 1 p.m. at The Reformed Baptish Church, 28 Meadows Road, Lafayette, NJ. The event is open to the public.
Both Mariapia and Isabelle will minor in music in College, have participated in the National Guild of Musicians evaluations, performed at the Walter Engel Festival of Young Performers, performed in all of our recitals over the last several years, and have used their talents to benefit the comunity by raising money for Project Self-Sufficiency, in Newton, N.J.
Isabelle in addition to playing piano is a member of the Meistersingers Chorus, and has been very involved in Musical Theater, staring in several productions while at Warwick High School. She has studied piano with Margaret for five years. She is considering several options concerning her college choice.
Mariapia in addition to playing piano is a member of several choirs (school, church, and Sussex County Choir), is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Musical Composition Club, and leader of the student-run a cappalla group.
She has studied piano with Margaret for eight years. She will attend Stevens Institute of Technology, majoring in Pre-Med, with a minor in music.
