This January, Drama Geek Studios will take audiences “Over the Rainbow” and present yet another opportunity for community members to showcase their talents and shine with their production of "The Wizard of Oz" at Sussex County Community College Performing Arts Center.

Cast members range from children age 7 to adults in their 50S with experience ranging from beginner to seasoned pro.

“Every rehearsal has been more amazing than the last," Assistant Stage Manager Connor Nelms said. "Watching these performers, both young and old, pour their hearts and souls into this production has truly proven just how important Drama Geeks, and the arts, are to this community.”

Actor and choreographer Matt Fralley appeared as Mark in last summer’s production of RENT and who plays the Cowardly Lion.

“In most shows, the cast becomes close with one another, but here we become one big family," he said. "I have been working with Drama Geek Studios for about seven months and it already feels like a home away from home … DGS is definitely a place where I can be whoever I want to be and have fun doing what I love.”

The cast and crew are not the only ones excited about opening night. Parents of the 35 kids and teens involved in the production are also looking forward to show time.

“Being a part of Drama Geek Studios’ production of THE WIZARD OF OZ has been a wonderful opportunity for our daughters," Jenn Reynolds said.

Owners Josh and Vicky Reed and the rest of their team treat the actors like professionals. They bring a mix of educational and professional experience to the table.

This production not only provides local community members with outlets for creative expression but it also gives back to the larger community. Drama Geek Studios is a non-profit organization that donates a portion of the proceeds from every production to a charity that is fitting of each show. In the past, donations have been made to Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids, D.A.S.I., and Homeless Veterans of Sussex County. This production will donate a portion of its proceeds to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.

"The Wizard of Oz" will be performed at Sussex County Community College Performing Arts Center Saturdays January 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23 at 8pm and Sundays January 10, 17, and 24 at 2 p.m.
