Jefferson Township celebrates Veterans Day

Veterans Day was observed in Jefferson Township at the Veterans Memorial Park in the Municipal Complex on Weldon Road.

The observance began with a musical prelude of patriotic songs by the Jefferson Township High School Band and Chorus. Former Mayor Frances Slayton lead those present reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Colleen Vanoudenaren sang the National Anthem accompanied the by the High School Band and Chorus. American Legion Post 423 Chaplain Jay Dunham gave the Invocation. Mayor Russell Felter introduced various dignitaries who were attending the Observance.

The commanders of the American Legion Posts and the VFW recognized members with 50 years of service and remembered those who had passed away since the last Veterans Day.

Felter and guests laid wreaths at the Memorials. American Legion Post 245 gave a three-gun salute to the departed members of the services. Taps was played by Ryan Schmidt and Amer Choudhury.

Guest Speakers were New Jersey Dept. American Legion Vice Commander Alfred Wilson, N.J., Dept. Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Daniel Vivieros and Colonel Scott Turner, Jr., of Picatinny Arsenal.

Benediction was given by Chaplain Jay Dunham. Mayor Felter gave the closing remarks and invited everyone for refreshments in the Municipal Building.

The observance closed with the high school band, chorus and everyone singing "God Bless America".
