SPARTA — Pass It Along will host Family Volunteer Day on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Sparta Evangelical Free Church. This is a day of service demonstrating the power of families who volunteer together in support of their communities. The event was started 23 years ago by Points of Light, an affiliate partner of Pass It Along, as a way to kick-off the holiday season.

It also signals the start of National Family Week, sponsored by the Alliance for Children and Families and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Volunteers are asked to bring in a non-perishable food item that relates to a Thanksgiving meal. In addition to creating the meal kits, Kathy Rathbone, Director of Annual Events, said the event “Provides families the opportunity to volunteer together while they decorate placemats, create Thanksgiving cards, centerpieces, recipe books and cookie making. We also encourage families to adopt a family in need and provide a frozen turkey along with all of the non-perishable food items to make a complete Thanksgiving meal.” She shared that the list of families calling Pass It Along to put their names on the list is almost at its max already.

Families can also bring in their gently used coats for their Note In A Coat campaign. To get more information and register please go to www.passitalong.org.

This year’s event was the recipient of a grant from Generation On, an affiliate of the Point of Light network. Pass It Along also thanks the Sparta Evangelical Free Church who once again is providing the use of their facility.
