Jefferson plans S.A.F.E.T.Y. clinic

    Grace C. Rhinesmith, director of recreation in Jefferson Township will hold a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015 from 6:45 p.m. to 10 p.m.

    The course “Sports Awareness for Educating Today’s Youth” will be held in the Jefferson Township Senior Center located at 54 Schoolhouse Road, Oak Ridge.

    Pre-registration is required, and forms must be submitted no later than 4:30 PM on Tuesday, October 20. The cost is $31 per person; however, the fee will be waived for the first 25 Jefferson coaches to register for this class.

    Registration forms are available to print on www.jeffersontownship.net, Forms Center link to the Recreation Department page, in person at the Recreation Department office, in the display racks of the Jefferson Township Municipal Building and Public Library, and can be faxed or e-mailed by contacting TMcCarney@jeffersontownship.net or calling 973-663-8404 option 5.

    All registration forms and checks, if applicable, must be mailed to the Recreation Department at 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849 or delivered in person to the Recreation Department located at Camp Jefferson at the same address by the deadline date. Each individual will require a separate form, and lists of names will not be accepted regardless of the organization affiliation.

    In order to be eligible for the civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (2A: 62A-6), volunteer coaches are required to attend a “safety orientation and training skills program.” This clinic is based upon the “Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Program” and has been tested in court as having met the standards.

    Volunteer coaches who attend this program receive a copy of “Coaching the Child Behind the Athlete” textbook, “The Coaches Reference Manual”, certification card acknowledging attendance, and permanent registration with The Rutgers YSRC.
