The Hamburg Police Dept. will wear pink uniform shirts with the cancer awareness ribbon to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

In August, Police Director Wayne Yahm was approached by Sergeant George Gunderman with the request to wear pink uniform shirts for the month of October.

Gunderman and other members of the Hamburg police have family members and friends that have been touched by this disease and are survivors.

At the September Mayor and Council meeting, Yahm informed mayor and council of the request and his support for the uniform change for the month of October.

The mayor and council unanimously supported the request.

Yahm said the Hamburg Police will wear the pink shirts with pride and the hope that one day breast cancer and other types of cancer will become a curable disease and that no one will suffer the loss of a loved one to cancer.
