Mayor Steve Ciasullo read a proclamation recognizing the Month of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the Borough of Ogdensburg during the Council's meeting on Sept. 14. He also recognized Nicholas DaSilva of Hardyston for surviving his battle with cancer.

There to receive the plaque was DaSilva's mother, Patricia DaSilva.

She later explained that “going gold” was the color used to recognize the young lives affected by pediatric cancer. Four other towns have also issued similar proclamations: Hardyston, Hamburg, Franklin, and Vernon in order to raise awareness of childhood cancer.

Nicholas was first diagnosed with Burkett's Lymphoma-Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 5. He is currently 7 years old.
