Franklin school celebrates 100 years

Under a bright blue sky hundreds of residents attended the 100th Birthday Celebration of Franklin School last Saturday.

The day began with musical offerings by the Franklin School Chorus and the Franklin Band. Shortly after 1 p.m., the official Sussex County plaque recognizing the Franklin School was unveiled and doves were released to fly above the crowds. The school was the last remaining kindergarten through 12th-grade school in New Jersey until the Wallkill Valley Regional High School opened in 1982.

Saturday’s event was the second of two events marking the 100th anniversary. An earlier alumni event was held in August at the Franklin Firemen’s Pavilion off Route 23.
