The Friends of High Point State Park held a Bait and Boat Festival on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Once a year, non-motorized boats are permitted onto Lake Marcia in High Point State Park. The Friends group provided boats for anyone that wanted to explore the lake. Fishing also was available but fishers must have a valid fishing permit.

Chris Panico of Wantage and member of the Friends of High Point was busy with all the incoming boats. Each one was scrubbed down before letting it enter into Lake Marcia. Boats coming from other areas can be carrying invasive plants and matter that can be harmful.

Roberta Bramhall, secretary for the Friends of High Point was on hand with a do-it-yourself boat craft. If it floats you win a prize.

Despite some showers the activities carried on. The day ended with a bonfire and s'mores.
