Franklin council approves raises

The Franklin Borough councils approved several salary ranges for various borough employees and officers at its Tuesday, Sept. 8, council meeting.

“This is not verbatim,” said Council Member Nick Giordano, who ran the meeting for absent Mayor Paul Crowley. “This is just a range where salaries should fall.”

Various resolutions were passed, awarding specific pay increases to some borough personnel. There was some resistance to the increases by the public and Councilmen Frederick Babcock and Robert Dabinet.

Tax Collector Theresa Schlosser was awarded a salary adjustment of an additional $5,000 per year.

“I think that is a big jump,” Babcock said. “I feel we should have negotiated that. We need to save money and give back to the residents, I can’t support it.”

Babcock and Dabinet also voted against a resolution awarding Joe Drossel full-time status. The measure passed, 3-2.

“I’ve been an advocate of a full-time zoning officer,” Giordano said. “Franklin is a growing town. It is at this point we need to have a full time zoning officer."
