Ogdensburg begins new school year

    The faculty started school on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 and the students began on Wednesday, Sept. 2, for a half day of school.

    Mr. David Astor, the new Superintendent/Principal said he was looking forward to seeing the students on their first day of school. He talked about the excitement of “that feel and that smell that the new school year brings.”

    Astor also reported that there are 264 students enrolled for the 2015-16 school year. Two families moved which resulted in losing five students from the school.

    Twice a year, the school has to report on the Electronic and Vandalism Report. The report was for the Period 2 of the school year, which dates from Jan. 1 to June 30. Astor said that despite three minor incidents he said he feels Ogdensburg is an extremely safe school.

    Astor told everyone the Board of Education is accepting applications for school choice students for the 2015-16 school year. Astor announced that there are seven school choice student spots available. The website is www.obboe.org and the phone number is (973) 827-7126.

    Back to school nights will be held on Sept. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. It was suggested that the board members attend the back to school nights if available.

    Lynne Pederson, one of the board members, announced that three eighth-grade honor students in Algebra will attend math at Wallkill Valley Regional High School.

    The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Oct. 6.
