Carr appointed new Wallkill Valley school head

HAMBURG — The Director of Instruction and Curriculum of Wallkill Valley Regional High School will soon take over the reins of the school district, as the Board of Education voted unanimously on Tuesday, Aug. 25, to name David Carr the new superintendent of schools/principal.

Carr who has been mentored by Interim Superintendent/Principal Bob Walker since July 1, 2014, will begin in his new role on Sept. 1 said he's “thrilled at the board's decision”.

Carr earned his BA at William Paterson University and his MA from the College of St. Elizabeth

“I’ve been building toward this for most of this past year, through a log of encouragement from colleagues, friends and family and I am confident I can continue the good work of the district," Carr said.

Walker said he was delighted the school board selected Carr. He said Carr is an exceptional educator of integrity, who is highly respected by students, parents, teachers and is an individual who will dedicate himself to providing every young person a quality education. Walker said Carr respects and loves teenagers and is regularly available to answers their questions, recognize their accomplishments, and can be seen attending the many athletic, art, musical and activity evens. He communicates clearly with faculty and parents while encouraging them to participate and share their ideas, Walker said.

Carr has been employed by Wallkill Valley Regional High School for four years and previously served as principal, vice principal and teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Franklin. Carr and his wife, Melissa, are both graduates of Wallkill and they have two children, Grace and Jack.

“I am thrilled to serve the Wallkill School District and so look forward to working with our dedicated administration, faculty & support staff to continue our mission of educational excellence for the children of our region,” Carr said.

Carr has worked closely with Walker on a vast number of initiatives, including offering students an array of additional electives with the brand-new nine period day school. Carr has played a key role with respect to Wallkill having state of the art technology including acquiring Real Time, a Cisco Wi-Fi system, the purchase of 125 I5 computers for a teacher academy and PARCC testing center for students, chrome books for French and Special Education classes and smart boards even in Auto classes .

Carr worked closely the assistant principals taking steps to insured greater safety of the students and teachers by adding 48 cameras and two part time security officers in addition to Raptor visitor scanner devise that does an immediate background check and prints a visitor badge.

Again David will be taking over for Walker, who previously served as superintendent at Kittatinny Regional High School from 1985-2007. Walker’s RGW Educational Consulting LLC will be contracted to continue to evaluate district financial expenditures and contracts for district savings and be available for consulting.
