Things are about to change at The Newton Theatre — the venue is gearing up for its next phase of renovations, that will help make the overall theatre experience more enjoyable.

The plans include the expansion and modernization of the men’s and women’s restrooms and the addition of a separate wheelchair accessible restroom.

Currently, the existing women’s room has only two stalls with one sink, the men’s room is just as small, and neither have disability access. After the renovation, the all new women’s room will have six stalls with five sinks and the new men’s room will have five stalls with three sinks.

The Box office, Administrative office and storage area will all be reconfigured to allow space for these changes. For patrons, this will mean more comfortable restrooms and the alleviation of long lines.

The renovations are scheduled to take place this fall. With these goals in mind they are seeking help to fund this project.

The Newton Theatre is using the funding site Kickstarter to help attain their goal of $85,000. Visit their project page “Rockin’ Restroom Renovations” on Kickstarter through www.TheNewtonTheatre.com, to make a donation, for which there are different rewards for each level of contribution.

This project will only be funded if at least $85,000 is pledged within 60 days, by Sept. 6. Then The Newton Theatre will receive the donations and begin the renovations.

In 2011, after a major restoration, the historic Newton Theatre re-opened its doors as a 605 seat performing arts center in the heart of Sussex County. For more almost three years it has presented a multitude of live performances with diverse programming, including world-renowned music acts, comedians, family shows and much more, in an intimate setting. Iconic performers such as Judy Collins, Lyle Lovett, Kansas, Arlo Guthrie, Jon Anderson, Todd Rundgren and The Glenn Miller Orchestra have all graced the stage.
