Cub Scout pack hosts annual mobile derby

Franklin Cub Scout Pack 90 hosted its annual Cub Mobile Derby on Sunday, June 22.

Hardyston Pack 298 and Vernon Pack 404 also attended the event.

This year was special as a seasoned soapbox derby racer challenged Pack 90's winner. Bob Allen first raced the derby in 1942. He remembers Franklin's Main Street packed with spectators for the big race. Allen has helped the pack run this race for years, but this year he was bit by the bug to race again.

More than 70 years after his first race, Allen strapped on his helmet and successfully made the race down the hill. Unfortunately not fast enough to beat Cooper Weeks, but fast enough to bring smiles and cheers from the rest of the scouts and spectators

The fastest racers of the day were Cooper Weeks (Pack 90) with a 30-second run, Christopher C (Pack 298) with 28.37 second run and first-place winner, Anthony P (Pack 298) with a 28.12 second run.
