Wildlife refuge plans family fishing event

| 26 May 2014 | 10:12

Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge and Double V Rod and Gun Club invite the whole family to go fishing on Sunday, June 15, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The annual event coincides with New Jersey's free fishing days; no fishing license is required. The public can bring their own fishing equipment for a day of catch-and-release at the refuge lake at 136 Owens Station Road in Vernon. There will be some fishing poles available for use during the event for those that need. Volunteers will be on hand to offer tips for anyone new to fishing.

This is the 13th year the refuge and Double V have offered the family fishing event and the first year at this location. People can make a day of it — bring a picnic lunch and lawn chairs or come for a few hours. Light snacks will be available courtesy of the Friends of Wallkill River Refuge. The event is free and will be held rain or shine.

For more information phone the refuge weekdays at (973)702-7266 ext. 10 or visit the website at www.fws.gov/refuge/Wallkill_River.
