The Wallkill Valley Board of Education adopted its $15,133,033 budget for the upcoming 2014-15 school year on April 29.

According to school Business Administrator and Board Secretary Joseph P. Hurley, Jr., the budget will call for a $9,793,530 tax levy, calculated from the school's four sending districts: Franklin, Hamburg, Hardyston, and Ogdensburg. The levy is a $170,838 increase from the 2013-14 budget.

There will be slight increases in Franklin and Hardyston, and Hamburg will see a 6 percent decrease from this prior year. Ogdensburg, however, will see a rather large increase by almost 25 percent. There are two things driving it: the ratio of students went up by 20 percent from state calculations and also assessed values went down significantly.

Wallkill Valley will receive an additional $23,430 in state aid over last year's total. The district expects to receive $4,668,564 in state aid.

The school will see a $190,317 decrease for any costs associated with students who are placed in schools outside of Wallkill Valley. This includes Special Education, juvenile detention, and Vocational Technical students.

The budget also includes a withdrawal from the Capital Reserve account of $180,000 to fund the replacement of the gymnasium floor, Hurley said.

Although slightly less than last year, the Special Revenue Fund, which includes federal and state grants, like No Child Left Behind and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), will have $210,365.
