Locals perform in Urinetown: The Musical

The winner of three Tony Awards, Urinetown: The Musical is one of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years. Running May 1 to 10 at The Lackland Center, Centenary College’s Theatre Department presents this hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom.

The production is directed by Jeremy Hilgert, former Adjunct Professor of Theatre; choreographed by Lea Antolini-Lid, Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance; and Musical Director is Oberlin Conservatory graduate Ryan Bridge. The set was designed by Adjunct Professor Jordan Janota, the costumes by Adjunct Professor Melanie Miles and makeup by Professor of Theatre Stephen Davis, along with help from their respective students. The production is stage managed by Centenary College Junior Paige Murray (Putnam, CT).

Urinetown runs May 1 to 10 with performances on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets for Urinetown are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $10 for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the Centenary Stage Company Box Office at centenarystageco.org or by 908-979-0900.
