SCCC Rototract Club sets goal to support healthy babies

NEWTON — During a recent Student Government meeting held at Sussex County Community College, Regan Dalby of Stockholm and Rotaract Club President announced their continued support this year of the Skylands March for Babies campaign by setting a goal of raising $3,000 for the March of Dimes.

March for Babies is the premier fundraising event for March of Dimes, which supports lifesaving research, education and community programs that help moms to have healthier babies.

Dalby encouraged other campus student groups to follow their lead by registering their clubs for the April 27 walk.

“We hope we can help to rally the campus community to support this organization and the health of the babies of future generations,” Dalby said.

In attendance at the March student government meeting was JoAnn Bartoli, senior community director for March of Dimes, who spoke of the 3,200 babies born with birth defects and over 12,000 babies born prematurely each year in New Jersey. With premature birth being the number one cause of newborn death and many disabilities, the students were eager to help make a change. Dalby with Rotaract and the ASL Group both registered their teams that morning.

Skylands March for Babies is scheduled for April 27 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds with more than 500 participants anticipated to help raise funds towards the goal of $105,000 in 2014.

The Rotaract Club invited the community to help them reach their $3,000 fundraising goal by attending its annual Zumbathon for Babies on April 22 at SCCC in the “E” building gym. Doors open at 6:30pm. The cost is $10 for Zumba and $10 for their “I Love Babies” T-shirt.
