TRENTON — Senator Steve Oroho and Assemblyman Parker Space received awards from the American Conservative Union for their 2017 legislative voting record.
“Standing up for taxpayers and traditional values in New Jersey is a top priority for Parker, Hal, and me,” said Oroho, who serves on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. “We are continuing our mission to make New Jersey more competitive to bring in new businesses and private sector jobs and it starts with making sure our tax policies are attractive.”
Oroho will receive the Award for Conservative Achievement. Oroho and Senator Mike Doherty (R-Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset) were the only two senators receiving awards by the ACU.
The ACU announced its Ratings of the New Jersey State Legislature honoring the Garden State’s true conservatives. The nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization began an initiative to expand the highly touted ACU Congressional Ratings program to the New Jersey State Legislature in 2013, grading members on their votes on key conservative issues.
Space has been recognized for his voting record every year he has served in the legislature. This year is the fourth consecutive year he will receive the Award for Conservative Excellence, the highest award the ACU bestows upon legislators for their voting record.
“The American Conservative Union has long been known across the country as the leading voice of the conservative movement and Steve and I are honored they have recognized our work to lower the cost of government and opposing liberal social policies,” said Space. “Our approach stands in stark contrast to the massive new increases in taxes and spending that the Democrat leadership in the governor’s office and legislature want to impose on beleaguered taxpayers this year.”
Assemblyman Hal Wirths praised his district colleagues and took aim at the far-left record of the Democrat legislative majorities since 2002.
“Under McGreevey and Corzine, the Democrat majorities in the legislature raised taxes and fees 120 times and increased State spending to generate more social engineering programs,” said Wirths, a member of the Assembly Appropriations Committee. “That old tired liberal fiscal policies of the past wants to rear its ugly head again. It will leave our state broke and so overwhelmed with more taxes that more people and businesses will be forced to move out of state. Now we are facing billions of dollars of new taxes and spending we cannot afford. I am appreciative the American Conservative Union has shed a light on who is standing up for beleaguered taxpayers.”
