NAMI Sussex, the Sussex County affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, was recently honored at NAMI New Jersey's Annual Awards Luncheon, as the top fundraising team in this year's New Jersey NAMIWalk.
The walk was held May 14 on the Boardwalk at Seaside Park, with 77 teams raising donations and approximately 1500 people participating. Teams were able to continue fundraising online through July 6.
NAMI Sussex raised a total of $10,223, far exceeding the team's goal of $5,000. To date, the New Jersey NAMIWalk has raised $151,539 to support the work of NAMI New Jersey and its local affiliates. They provide free support, education and advocacy programs to improve the lives of those with mental illness and the family members who love and care for them.
NAMI Sussex's recently elected president, Annie Glynn, was honored as the top individual fundraiser in this year's New Jersey NAMIWalk. Past president, Jeri Doherty, served as the NAMI Sussex Team Captain.
NAMIWalks are held annually throughout the nation. The goal of a NAMIWalk is not only to raise much-needed funds, but also to raise public awareness and combat stigma.
