Fall Adult Acting Workshop & Conservatory of Dance Classes

Centenary Stage Company (CSC) is accepting enrollment into their Acting Workshop and Dance Conservatory courses for the fall semester.

CSC is committed to providing affordable quality performing arts education to the Northwest New Jersey Skylands region. With professional instructors and schedules fit for working adults and teens, these programs are fit for amateurs and professionals.

Acting
A special Actors Workshop for Adults will be offered this fall with a 14-week session held on Monday nights from 6 to 9:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 8 to Dec. 15. Tuition for the 14-week session is $200. Centenary Theatre Arts Professor, Stephen Davis will be leading the Actors Workshop. The class will focus on monologue work, acting techniques and will include scene study. Registration deadline is Aug. 29.

Davis’ Centenary directing credits include: Antigone, Cymbeline, Twelfth Night, and Polaroid Stories among others. He served as the fight choreographer for Breakfast with Mugabe, Oliver! (also played Mr. Brownlow), The Wizard of Oz (also Professor Marvel/The Wizard of Oz and Makeup Designer), Deathtrap, and The Liar. Davis has a B.F.A. in acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University and an M.F.A. in directing from University of South Carolina, where he received the Two Thumbs Up Teaching Award for making a difference in the lives of students with learning disabilities. While at Centenary, Professor Davis was honored with the 2010-2011 United Methodist Exemplary Teaching Award. Davis has also taught and directed for Kean University, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Playwright’s Theatre of New Jersey, Primary Stages, Folger Theatre of DC, and the American Globe Theatre in NYC.

Dance
The Conservatory of Dance at Centenary provides the community with affordable, high-quality dance classes and is designed to introduce dancers to professionals who are currently working as choreographers, dancers and educators in dance and theatre at a collegiate level. Classes will run from Aug. 28 to Dec. 11. The Conservatory of Dance is led by Centenary Theatre and Dance Professor Lea Antolini-Lid, who holds a BMA in classical voice from the University of the Arts and her MFA in acting from Brandeis University where she also had the opportunity to teach movement for the actor under the tutelage of Susan Dibble. Other professional dance artists will be teaching along-side Antolini-Lid.

Classes include Dance Foundations (Wed. 5 to 6 p.m.), Modern I – II (Tues. 4 to 5:10 p.m.), Ballet I - II (Tues. 5:30 to 6:40 p.m.), Jazz I – II (Tues. 7 to 8:20 p.m.), Zumba (Thurs 2 to 3:10 p.m.) and Hip Hop (Thurs. 4 to 5:10 p.m.). Classes are open to high school students through adults who have prior dance experience with the exception of Dance Foundations designed for beginner dance students. Class prices are $130 for one class per week, $195 for two classes per week, and $275 for three classes per week. Registration deadline is Aug. 20.

Antolini-Lid has performed professionally in NYC and in various cities on the east coast. Her most recent credits include 400 Parts Per Million (Blessed Unrest Theater Co. NYC). She has choreographed and directed numerous productions over the past 10 years and serves as the educational Young Audience Series tour founder/director at Centenary Stage Company. She is a member in training with Blessed Unrest Theater Company in NYC, and a recent recipient of Dance New Jersey’s Jete Award for her role in collaborating with professional NJ-based dance companies performing in the CSC’s Annual Dance Festival.
