HAMBURG — The umpires walked off the field causing a premature end to an American Legion baseball game between Franklin and Pequannock on Sunday, June 29, at Wallkill Valley Regional High School. The game was called in the fourth inning after Pequannock coach Chuck Laparta argued a play at first base in which Franklin's Connor Kopnik was called safe. A brief but intense exchange of words between the referee and Laparta paused action on the field before the field umpire announced he was leaving. Before leaving, he asked his partner if he wanted to finish the game. When he replied no, both umpires walked off the field. It was the first time anyone at the field had seen that happen. Franklin was leading, 1-0, when play was stopped. The game will be made up a later time.— Photos by George Leroy HunterFor more photos, visit www.advertisernewssouth.com.
