The Sussex County YMCA will host its 12th annual golf outing on Wednesday, May 21, at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hardyston.

The event will honor a dedicated community supporter, Senator Steve Oroho. Proceeds from the event support the programs and services that the Y provides for children, families, adults and seniors in our community.

The public is invited to take a swing and participate in this event, which includes a play-your-own ball tournament at New Jersey’s top-rated golf course. The day will begin at 7:15 a.m., with registration and a boxed breakfast to go, followed promptly by Tournament Instruction at 8:45 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The afternoon will conclude with a hor d’oeuvres and a cocktail reception at 2:45 p.m., followed by dinner and the presentation of the honoree at 4 p.m. A corporate package can be purchased for $1,300, which includes a foursome for golf, breakfast, reception, dinner and a tee Sign. A Birdie package can be purchased for $1,100 and includes a foursome for golf, breakfast, reception and dinner. A Par package includes golf, breakfast, reception and dinner for the price of $275. Participants who wish to attend the reception and dinner only can purchase a ticket for $75.

This year’s honoree, Senator Steve Oroho is currently serving his third term in the New Jersey State Senate, representing all of Sussex County, and parts of northern Warren and Morris Counties. Oroho has been a vital and active member of our community long before he began serving in office, coaching baseball and football for Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta in 1998, believing that through coaching, adults can help demonstrate and teach leadership qualities to our youth.

Today, Oroho remains active locally by participating on many boards, including the Center for Prevention and Counseling Advisory Board in Newton, and is active in his church where he is a lector and an honored member of the Knights of Columbus.

Oroho is the recipient of the “Paul L. Troast Public Service Award” from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, an award bestowed annually upon a public servant who has made an outstanding contribution for the State of New Jersey and its business community.
