Big Apple Comedy Club bringing big laughs to the Newton Theatre
NEWTON — Returning to the Newton Theatre is the Big Apple Comedy Club for a series of dates beginning this Fall and continuing through the Spring of 2013. Each show will feature four of New York City’s best comics.
First up on Sept. 21 will feature Joe DeVito, Tina Georgi, Jeff Caldwell and
Whether taking on relationships, his Italian-American family, or current events, Joe Devito's dead-on timing, unexpected twists and sheer flights of lunacy make him a favorite at clubs and colleges across the USA, and at the top venues in New York City. Joe's TV appearances include The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, and a semi-finalist turn on season five of NBC's Last Comic Standing. His savage wit has also made him an in-demand panelist on shows like Chelsea Lately, CNN's Headline News, Animal Planet's Wild 100, and a regular guest on FOX News Channel's Red Eye. As a writer, Joe has contributed to Maxim Magazine, MTV, and the award-winning film Super Size Me a set that was as fast paced as it was funny.
Tina Georgi is a national headlining comedianne and no doubt one of New York’s most clever acts. Tina appears regularly at such hot spots as Caroline’s Comedy Club, Dangerfield’s, Comic Strip Live, Stand Up NY and the Comedy Stop at the Tropicana in Atlantic City. Tina has also appeared on numerous television shows including The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Comedy Central and Metro Channel’s “New Joke City with Robert Klein." This is a chance to see this great comedianne as she continues to be a driving force on the New York comedy scene!
Jeff Caldwell is known to audiences nationwide as clean, clever comedian with one of the brightest standup acts around. Whether at a comedy club or corporate event, Jeff delivers smart, funny jokes on topics ranging from the daily news to the daily grind. He’s appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and on Comedy Central.
Dan Wilson is one of those breezy, gentle types that will hit you like a building collapsing. A naturally funny man, Wilson can rip through an inspired set that somehow connects Rudy Vallee style rapping, midget wrestling, plane flight annoyances, Barney Fife and a visit to the dentist. A tremendous amount of his material is potently funny, a sucker punch that you don’t expect from an innocent smile and an average Joe, but Wilson is one of the great “class clowns” in the business.
The Big Apple Comedy Club is on Fridays, Sept. 21 and Nov. 23, and in 2013 on Jan. 18, March 22 and May 17.
